Conceria Priante SRL is pleased to announce its performance results in the Higg’s social and environmental verifications during 2022.
- About Conceria Priante: Our tannery emerged in 1956 in the province of Vicenza, in the city of Arzignano, where nowadays represents one of the hottest centers of research, development and innovation for the leather market.
We always believed that combining innovation and tradition woudlk be possible to make the difference in and out the market, building up an industry that wants to remain strong and ahead of its time, guiding the sector towards continuous improvement.
In 2020 we took an important step towards global engagement within its value chain. Conceria Priante became member of SAC, Sustainable Apparel Coalition, which has over 200 members around the word in many segments, such as textile and footwear, as example, representing more than 40% of the global apparel supply chain.
As a way to develop the industry towards better working conditions and friendliness with the environment, the Coalition has, for the manufacturing industry, social and environmental modules, Higg FSLM and Higg FEM, respectively, which aim to evaluate and measure performance of their members.
This is our second experience with the Higg verification and we could see a clear difference in our performance. Knowing the protocol and its nuances are fundamentally important factors.
In general, our results had a significant improvement compared with the last verification, as a result of investment in improvements in our structure and in the construction of internal policies, as well as a greater understanding of the platform.
In the 2022 verification we scored 66.1 points in the Higg FEM, environmental module, value that is about 60% higher than the global median.
- There were improvements in the score of all sections when compared to the previous check, 2020. In Environmental Management System the increase was 75% in the score and for Management of Chemicals, 84%. This demonstrates the team’s engagement with the methodology and our commitment to building policies and good internal practices.
- It was observed that there was a significant improvement in the “Air” category, however it is noticeable that we are still far from the top of the global quartile, which is 41%. Therefore, our objective is to have an improvement of at least 25% in this category over the next cycles.
We believe that Higg FEM works as a tool for analyzing industrial performance and internal policies, which prepares us for the most diverse audits in our sector.
In the Higg FSLM, we perfomed the Step 1, and achieved 99.2 score points, which is above the global median, 93.5 points.
- We scored top marks in three categories (Worker Treatment, Worker Involvement, Termination). We had a significant improvement in the Recruitment and Hiring item, which had an increase of 15% when compared to the previous period. Same behavior seen in the Wages and Benefits section.
Over the coming cycles, our objective is to improve our practices and policies so that we achieve excellence in the other categories.
As seen in the image below, what we report in our questionnaire is validated almost entirely in the on-site verification, with very few divergences, demonstrating our knowledge about our industry and a clear understanding of what is being questioned by the protocol.
We believe that through assessments like these we prepare ourselves for a more challenging future, creating a lean production model, using only what is necessary, preserving the planet for future generations, taking care not only of the environment, but also of the people who make up our team.
